Southampton City Council partnered with EarthSense to deliver an award-winning, DEFRA-funded air quality programme tackling emissions from domestic wood burning. Combining Zephyr® air quality monitors, MappAir® modelling, and the MyAir® platform, the project provided high-resolution insights into PM₂.₅ pollution, supported targeted public engagement, and informed behaviour change campaigns. The initiative helped residents make cleaner heating choices, is estimated to save 8.6 tonnes of PM₂.₅ annually, and received the Westminster Commission’s Best Air Quality Strategy (Public Sector) award.
The London Borough of Newham partnered with EarthSense to better understand air pollution exposure around schools and key public locations. Using a network of Zephyr® air quality monitors, the Council gathered real-time data to support Healthy School Streets, anti-idling initiatives, and wider transport policies. The evidence informed targeted interventions, including timed road closures and green infrastructure, leading to cleaner environments around schools and supporting long-term strategies to reduce pollution exposure and improve public health across the borough.
