EarthSense team adds horticulture to their list of skills!

In a well-deserved break from our daily operations, the EarthSense team recently had the pleasure of spending a rewarding day at A Place to Grow, a sustainable community garden in Enderby, run by Blaby District Council.

This wonderful space supports positive mental health and wellbeing, offering opportunities for physical activity, growing fresh food and providing a welcoming environment for people who may feel isolated or face health challenges.

The day was hands-on - we tended the gardens, painted and helped to refresh seasonal produce. But gardening at A Place to Grow is about more than just food, it’s also about creating greener surroundings, improving air quality and nurturing healthier outdoor environments for everyone.

Working alongside the community and garden staff, the team contributed to a project rooted in connection, sustainable eating and wellbeing. After our gardening efforts, we treated ourselves to a celebratory BBQ, enjoying the fruits of our labour (and local produce) in great company.

Reconnecting with nature

Krupa Mistry, EarthSense’s Marketing Manager was one of the team who attended on the day.

Krupa explained: “Not only did the day offer an opportunity to reduce stress and improve wellbeing, but also a chance to reconnect with nature and boost our team spirit. A day outdoors reminds us that nature and teamwork go hand in hand, offering a refreshing break from screens and desks.

“A huge thank you to Blaby District Council and everyone behind A Place to Grow for welcoming us and for all the meaningful work you do. Plants, people, community - here’s to growing together!”

“Incredible energy and positivity”

Joanna Parr, Project & Administration Support Co-ordinator, said: “It was fantastic to welcome 18 volunteers from EarthSense on Tuesday 12 August to our community garden, A Place to Grow. Despite the beating sun and rising heat, everyone worked incredibly hard to make the space an even more accessible, safe, and beautiful place to be.

“It was invaluable to have you all there, the jobs you completed would have taken us months to achieve, especially the physically demanding job of turning all 8 or our compost beds! You are welcome any time and we encourage any other corporations to get in touch to take a break from the office, reconnect with nature and make a real difference within the local community.”

Joanna’s colleague, Susan Grant, Community Garden Manager at A Place to Grow, added: “Incredible energy and positivity from EarthSense. A can-do company!”
