EarthSense wins big at the Environmental Monitoring Awards 2025!

The EarthSense team is celebrating after a fantastic few days at the Environmental Services & Solutions Expo (ESS Expo) 2025 at the NEC, Birmingham, where we were honoured to receive the award for Smart Data & Analytics (Air) at the Environmental Monitoring Awards, in recognition of how our data insight is driving cleaner, healthier communities.

This award recognised our work with the West Midlands Combined Authority project, where we combined our Zephyr® air quality monitors with the MyAir® data platform to create hyperlocal, dynamic pollution mapping. The project empowered local authorities, planners and communities to make smarter, data-driven decisions for healthier, more sustainable living.

A proud moment for the team

Our Chief Executive, Tom Hall, reflected on the win: “This award highlights the incredible work of our team and partners. Turning environmental data into actionable insights is at the core of what we do, and to see our efforts recognised on this stage is a brilliant achievement. It’s a reminder that innovation in data quality and analytics really can drive cleaner, healthier communities.”

Inspiring conversations at ESS Expo

Beyond the awards, ESS Expo was a buzzing two days packed with insightful conversations, new collaborations and plenty of opportunities to showcase innovation. Visitors to Stand AQE U70 joined us to learn more about our latest work in air quality monitoring and smart analytics. From local authorities to industry experts, it was fantastic to connect with so many people passionate about cleaner air and smarter data.

Spotlight on data quality

A highlight of the event was our very own Roland Leigh taking to the stage with his talk, ‘Ensuring Data Quality and Compliance in Indicative Measurement Networks.’

His session unpacked the challenges and solutions for organisations running sensor-based or indicative air quality networks, with key takeaways including:

·             Quality assurance methods and calibration

·             Maintaining compliance in evolving regulatory environments

·             Best practices for data validation and reliability

·             Overcoming common pitfalls in sensor network deployments

The talk sparked great discussion, shining a light on how quality standards and compliance can underpin the future of smarter sensing networks.

Looking ahead

The past few days have been a whirlwind of innovation, recognition and connection. A huge thank you goes to the judging panel, the organisers of ESS Expo, and everyone who stopped by to speak with us. Congratulations also to all the other finalists and winners across the evening.

We’re heading home energised and inspired, ready to keep pushing the boundaries of how environmental data can shape healthier, more sustainable communities.
