Life at EarthSense: A Day In the Life of our MyAir Product Owner

Meet Scott Hodson, our MyAir Product Owner, who recently completed his third month here at EarthSense. Some may say he’s a ‘newbie’ but with his warm, welcoming energy, he had the whole team feeling like they’d known him for years.

Before joining EarthSense, Scott spent seven years in digital innovation and transformation as a consultant. Prior to that, he spent 14 years running his own health data and software business, which he grew from a university spin-out to a globally licensed product.

“Being at EarthSense feels like the completion of my mission - from studying health behaviour at university, to consultancy and now applying it all here.”

When he’s not busy ‘saving the environment’ you can catch Scott rescuing chickens… you heard that right. He runs a community farm that offers a safe space for disadvantaged people to connect, care for animals and find a positive path forward.

What do you do and what are your key responsibilities?

“My role bridges the gap between users, the development team and the business. I represent the voice of the customer, bringing their feedback into our agile ceremonies and helping to prioritise features that deliver real value."

“Our scrum team consists of a variety of front- and back-end developers, a wonderful scrum master and myself. We run daily ceremonies focused on planning, collaboration, and problem-solving - it’s not just coding; around 40% of our time is spent talking, deciding and de-risking. I also align the needs of the business and the team to ensure we’re building the right solutions with clear purpose and impact.”

Why EarthSense?

“When I saw the opportunity at EarthSense, the mission really stood out - it aligned perfectly with my own purpose of caring for people and making a positive impact. As someone passionate about self-development and driven by love, I knew I could contribute meaningfully. The team here is brilliant - full of kind, focused, and incredibly talented people. Three months in and I’m absolutely loving it.”

Which elements of your work give you the most satisfaction?

“It has to be - as mentioned before - the mission. It aligns perfectly with my purpose, which I’ve spent years defining through personal development. As a creator driven by love and a genuine care for people, I saw a natural fit. What gives me the most satisfaction is working with people who are just like me to reach that shared vision.”

What’s the funniest thing that’s happened in the office or in your workday?

“Probably the ongoing banter about not wearing shoes - we do it just to wind up our health and safety officer and the office director,” Scott chuckles."
“The atmosphere here is great. There's always good banter, we go out for drinks, and everyone genuinely wants to do good. It’s a place where people smile and feel appreciated.”

Who is the most interesting person you’ve met on the job?

“I have to give a special mention to David Green, my line manager and product manager at EarthSense. We hit it off straight away - we’ve got a great dynamic and often joke about our ‘bromance’. He’s been amazing to work with.”

“The most interesting person I’ve met on the job has to be Robin, our back-end engineer. He’s a full-time genius - incredibly visionary, always willing to talk things through, and just knows everything. He’s also one of the kindest, most genuine people I’ve met.”

What is your favourite part of a typical day?

“My favourite part is the sprint retrospective. A sprint is a focused two-week block of work, and at the end of it, the team comes together to reflect on what went well, what didn’t and how we can improve. Coming from a sporting background, I really value that space - it’s like gold dust. Everyone is open, honest and committed to getting better. In just three months, I’ve seen how that practice helps us grow as a team. It’s rewarding to know that showing up and being honest directly impacts the quality of our software, our productivity, and the team’s overall happiness.”
