We’ve had an amazing 2025 here at EarthSense, with award wins, major product roll-outs, innovative product frameworks announced, major deployments of our air quality monitors across the West Midlands and beyond, and strategic distribution agreements with suppliers across the world.
Winning big at the Environmental Monitoring Awards 2025
The EarthSense team celebrated a fantastic few days at the Environmental Services & Solutions Expo (ESS Expo) 2025 at the NEC, Birmingham, where we were honoured to receive the award for Smart Data & Analytics (Air) at the Environmental Monitoring Awards, in recognition of how our data insight is driving cleaner, healthier communities.
This award recognised our work with the West Midlands Combined Authority project, where we combined our Zephyr® air quality monitors with the MyAir® data platform to create hyperlocal, dynamic pollution mapping. The project empowered local authorities, planners and communities to make smarter, data-driven decisions for healthier, more sustainable living.
Birmingham City Council rolls out network to local schools
EarthSense has been working with Birmingham City Council to roll out a network of 376 real-time external indicative air quality sensors to participating schools throughout Birmingham. The Zephyr® sensors have been installed onto the exterior façades of primary and secondary schools across the city to support the Council’s commitment to raising awareness of the causes of air pollution, and the steps that can be taken to reduce emissions and exposure.
All schools in the Birmingham area that sign up to the programme will receive a free air quality sensor, provided by Birmingham City Council. The results captured by the sensors have been made freely available to the public via a portal which hosts downloadable factsheets with easy to understand data analytics, highlighting key metrics, as well as notifications of other Birmingham City Council air quality initiatives and events.
New website helps residents and businesses track pollution in real time
A ground-breaking new website launched to give residents and businesses in the West Midlands the chance to see for themselves just how clean the air is in their neighbourhood. Near-live air quality data has been collected by the largest hi-tech network of sensors outside of London, funded with government money secured by the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA)
The sensors have been installed outside homes, schools, businesses, hospitals and sports centres right across the region. They are providing some of the most accurate near real time data yet on levels of microscopic particles from wood burners, vehicle tyres, building sites and factories. The sensors are also tracking levels of nitrogen dioxide from roads and industrial sites. Accessing this data gives local people a greater insight into pollution hotspots so they can take their own actions to improve their health and quality of life.
New Network QAQC Framework ensures European-compliant indicative air quality measurement data
EarthSense launched a new Network QAQC (Quality Assurance and Quality Control) framework to ensure real-time, regulatory compliant indicative measurement data for its Zephyr® air quality monitors, across wide geographies and evolving environmental conditions.
The framework provides a PAS4023 compliant QAQC to ensure that Zephyr® data meets the required data quality objectives for indicative measurements, as defined in European directive 2024/2881.
Rolling out new Zephyr Lites to drive long-term change
This year, EarthSense rolled out its new Zephyr Lite sensors to empower local communities to take action on air pollution.
The EarthSense Zephyr Lite sensors are ideal for installation near school entrances, playgrounds or community centres to raise awareness of air quality levels through its colour-coded AQI LED band. Real-time visibility empowers parents, staff, and local residents to take protective actions during periods of high pollution and supports educational outreach around air quality and its wider health impacts.
New global partnerships
This year, we’ve established new collaborations and partnerships to extend the distribution and deployment of our Zephyr monitors in key territories worldwide. These have included:
Ambimetric, a Portugal-based environmental monitoring specialist, in Portugal and other Portuguese-speaking markets, including Angola, Cape Verde, Mozambique, and Sao Tome and Principe
IoT Plus, a leading smart solutions provider based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), across the Middle East
ECO Environmental, a specialist in environmental monitoring solutions, for Australia’s construction and environmental monitoring sectors
Nevco Engineers Pvt. Ltd., one of India's leading air quality monitoring system suppliers, based in Delhi
